Swissquote is owned by a listed Swiss banking group that publishes audited accounts and names its largest shareholders, board and management. The three companies that serve retail forex and CFD clients are licensed by FINMA, the FCA and CySEC, and each is covered by a protection scheme: Swiss deposit insurance for the bank, the FSCS in the UK and the Investor Compensation Fund in Cyprus. UK and EU clients also have segregated client money and negative balance protection, but clients of Swissquote Bank SA, which serves Switzerland and the rest of the world, hold their cash as bank deposits and can lose more than they deposit. We found no enforcement action against a Swissquote company that meets our threshold. Each region publishes its risk warning, leverage and costs, although we found no stated currency conversion charge, and the UK and Cyprus terms can change without advance notice.
The three companies that serve retail forex and CFD clients are on their regulators’ lists with matching names: Swissquote Bank SA on FINMA’s list of authorised banks, Swissquote Ltd on the FCA’s list and Swissquote Capital Markets Ltd on CySEC’s register. We also matched Swissquote Asia on the SFC’s register and Swissquote Pte. Ltd. in MAS’s directory.
Each regional site names the company that serves its visitors and its regulator: Swissquote Ltd for the UK, Swissquote Capital Markets for EU forex and CFD clients and Swissquote Bank SA for Switzerland and the rest of the world. The Dubai site explains that its products are offered by the Swiss bank, not the DFSA-licensed company.
The companies belong to Swissquote Group Holding Ltd, listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Its 2025 governance report lists the shareholders above 3%: co-founders Marc Bürki (11.15%) and Paolo Buzzi (10.42%), UBS Fund Management (5.41%) and BlackRock (3.34%).
All the licences we checked are current. Swissquote Asia’s SFC licence carries a condition that it may not hold client assets, which does not affect the service, as client accounts are held by the Swiss bank.
UK clients are covered by the FSCS, up to GBP 85,000, and EU clients by the Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund, up to EUR 20,000. Deposits with Swissquote Bank SA are covered by esisuisse, the Swiss deposit insurance scheme, which lists the bank as a member, up to CHF 100,000.
Not met We found no complaint statistics published by Swissquote, and its UK company is below the thresholds for the FCA’s and the ombudsman’s firm-level tables.
Partly met The licence statements on the UK, EU, Swiss, Hong Kong and Singapore sites match the registers. We could not check the DFSA licence of Swissquote MEA, the FSCA authorisation of Swissquote South Africa or the CSSF licence of Swissquote Bank Europe.
Partly met The UK and Cyprus companies hold client money in segregated accounts, under the FCA’s rules in the UK. Swissquote Bank SA, which serves Swiss and international forex clients, holds their cash as bank deposits, protected by Swiss deposit insurance rather than segregated.
Partly met CySEC lists dealing on own account and execution of orders in all instrument classes for Swissquote Capital Markets, FINMA lists Swissquote Bank SA as an authorised bank, and the SFC lists leveraged foreign exchange trading for Swissquote Asia. The FCA’s published list does not show the UK company’s permissions.
Partly met The UK and Cyprus companies publish their full names, registration numbers and registered addresses. Swissquote Bank SA’s documents give its name and Gland address but not its Swiss company number.

What protects client money if something goes wrong.
Client money segregation is disclosed 10111718
The UK and Cyprus companies hold client money in segregated accounts, under the FCA’s rules in the UK. Swissquote Bank SA, which serves Swiss and international forex clients, holds their cash as bank deposits, protected by Swiss deposit insurance rather than segregated.
Retail clients have negative balance protection 91011181920
Retail clients of the UK and Cyprus companies cannot lose more than the funds in their account. Swissquote Bank SA’s forex terms and risk warning say losses can exceed the money deposited and that clients may have to make additional payments.
An investor compensation scheme applies 1017182122
UK clients are covered by the FSCS, up to GBP 85,000, and EU clients by the Cyprus Investor Compensation Fund, up to EUR 20,000. Deposits with Swissquote Bank SA are covered by esisuisse, the Swiss deposit insurance scheme, which lists the bank as a member, up to CHF 100,000.
Withdrawal terms are disclosed 23242526
Each site publishes withdrawal methods, fees and processing times: free wire withdrawals taking one to three working days for UK and EU clients, and up to one working day at the Swiss bank, with fees by currency. The EU policy sets out when a withdrawal may be refused or delayed.

Warning lists and enforcement records have been searched 27
We searched CySEC, FCA, SFC and CVM records and the Indian and Malaysian alert lists, and ran web searches for actions by FINMA, the CSSF, the DFSA and MAS. We found no enforcement action against a Swissquote company that meets our threshold; the searches are listed in the source note.
No published findings were on record at the review date.

How the firm handles complaints, and what independent records show.
A complaints procedure is published 13282930
The UK site explains how to complain and when clients can go to the ombudsman, and the Cyprus company publishes a complaints policy with response times. For Swissquote Bank SA we found only a 30-day deadline for objecting to statements and the name of the Swiss Banking Ombudsman, not a complaints procedure.
Independent complaint outcomes show no adverse pattern 31
The ombudsman published three decisions on Swissquote Ltd in three years and upheld none, too few to show a pattern either way.
Complaint data is disclosed 32
We found no complaint statistics published by Swissquote, and its UK company is below the thresholds for the FCA’s and the ombudsman’s firm-level tables.
Criteria and their weighting are explained in the methodology.
Whether costs, execution and risks are disclosed before you sign up.
Costs are disclosed before account opening 111819232425
Each site publishes spreads, commissions and swap rates, and the UK and Swiss bank accounts carry an inactivity fee of 10 units a month after six months without trading (the Cyprus company charges none). We found no stated currency conversion charge; the EU terms say only that a fee may be charged.
An order execution policy is published 33343536
Each company publishes an execution policy. Swissquote Bank SA states that it is the counterparty, that best execution does not apply to forex and CFDs, and that it hedges with liquidity providers; the UK company deals as principal and publishes a conflicts of interest summary.
Leverage and margin terms are disclosed 1118192037
Swissquote Bank SA publishes standard leverage of 1:100, a 100% maintenance margin and a 30% stop-out level, with custom leverage for professionals. The UK and Cyprus companies publish per-instrument margins within the retail limits (up to 30:1) and a 50% stop-out level. The UK product guide’s general text still describes 1% margin and losses beyond deposits, copied from the bank’s guide.

We found no enforcement action against a Swissquote company that meets our threshold.
