Each licence was matched on the regulator’s own register on the date shown. Unverified claims are listed under Regulation and legal entities.
IG’s main companies are well documented. We matched its UK companies on the FCA’s register and its German, Australian, Singapore, Swiss and Bermuda companies on their regulators’ registers; only the Dubai, Japanese and New Zealand licences could not be checked. Ownership is transparent: IG Markets is wholly owned, through Market Data Limited, by IG Group Holdings plc, a listed company that publishes audited accounts and regulatory disclosures. Costs, client money arrangements and negative balance protection are clearly disclosed, and the ombudsman upheld about a fifth of the 76 decisions it published on IG’s two UK companies over three years. In 2023 IG Australia was one of seven CFD issuers that self-reported breaching Australia’s CFD leverage limits and compensated affected clients; it is also on the Reserve Bank of India’s alert list of unauthorised forex platforms. IG Group’s corporate website still attributes its Australian licence to IG Markets Ltd, and the UK customer agreement gives an old registered address.
Each regional website names the company that provides each type of account, with its licence, and each customer agreement names the contracting company.
Both the UK and international agreements say client money is held under client money rules in pooled client bank accounts, separate from IG’s own money.
IG Markets Limited is wholly owned by Market Data Limited, and the ultimate parent of the group’s companies is IG Group Holdings plc, a listed company. Companies House confirms Market Data Limited as the person with significant control.
Every register we checked shows the companies as currently authorised, with no suspension or restriction.
Full legal names, company numbers and registered addresses are published for the UK, Australian and Bermuda companies.

Partly met We matched seven of IG’s ten client-facing companies on official registers: IG Markets, IG Index and IG Trading and Investments on the FCA’s list, IG Europe on BaFin’s database, IG Australia in ASIC’s licensee data, IG Asia in MAS’s directory, IG Bank on FINMA’s list and IG International on the BMA’s register. We could not check IG Limited (DFSA), IG Securities (JFSA) or IG Australia’s New Zealand licence.
Not met The agreements say client money is held at selected third-party banks, possibly outside the UK or Bermuda, but do not name them.
Partly met The licences IG’s client-facing websites claim match the registers. But IG Group’s regulation page says IG Markets Limited holds the Australian and New Zealand licences, while ASIC’s data and IG’s Australian site show them held by IG Australia Pty Ltd. The Dubai and Japanese claims could not be checked.
Each dimension is scored from its criteria, then weighted. Dimensions without enough evidence are left out and the remaining weights are rescaled. Open a dimension to see every criterion, our rationale and the sources.
Whether the firm’s licences exist, are current and cover what it offers.
Client-facing entities appear on the regulator’s register 1234567
We matched seven of IG’s ten client-facing companies on official registers: IG Markets, IG Index and IG Trading and Investments on the FCA’s list, IG Europe on BaFin’s database, IG Australia in ASIC’s licensee data, IG Asia in MAS’s directory, IG Bank on FINMA’s list and IG International on the BMA’s register. We could not check IG Limited (DFSA), IG Securities (JFSA) or IG Australia’s New Zealand licence.
Permissions cover the services offered 12346
BaFin, ASIC, MAS and the BMA list permissions that cover dealing in CFDs or OTC derivatives as principal and holding client assets. The FCA’s published list does not show permissions, so we could not confirm the scope of the UK companies from the register itself.
Regulatory claims on the website are accurate 3789
The licences IG’s client-facing websites claim match the registers. But IG Group’s regulation page says IG Markets Limited holds the Australian and New Zealand licences, while ASIC’s data and IG’s Australian site show them held by IG Australia Pty Ltd. The Dubai and Japanese claims could not be checked.

A complaints procedure is published 21
IG publishes how to complain, by email, and aims to resolve complaints within eight weeks.
Complaint data is disclosed 2124
IG does not publish complaint statistics in the pages we reviewed, and its companies are below the thresholds for the FCA’s and the ombudsman’s firm-level complaint tables. AFCA publishes complaint figures for the financial firms that are its members, but its data site refused our requests, so we could not check the Australian company.

Leverage and margin terms are disclosed 11

An address and working contact channels are published 81113
Addresses and contact channels are published, but they are not fully consistent: the UK footer gives 88 Wood Street, London EC2V 7QR, Companies House records EC2V 7DA, and the UK customer agreement still gives the former Cannon Bridge House address.
Material changes are communicated 11
IG amends the UK agreement by written notice, and clients can object within 10 business days.

The Reserve Bank of India’s Alert List, updated as on 19 November 2025, includes IG Markets (www.ig.com) among entities that are neither authorised to deal in forex under the Foreign Exchange Management Act nor authorised to operate a forex trading platform in India. The list warns residents but does not allege fraud.
On 9 November 2023 ASIC reported that IG Australia (IG Markets Limited and IG Australia Pty Ltd) was one of seven CFD issuers that self-reported issuing CFDs to retail clients with leverage above the limits in ASIC’s CFD product intervention order, and that undertook remediation programs to compensate affected clients under ASIC’s review. ASIC did not impose a penalty. We record it as a settled matter of low severity because the breaches were self-reported and remediated.
